Student Loan Ombudsman

The Department of Education has a Student Loan Ombudsman to assist with investigating and attempting to resolve complaints regarding your Federal Student Loan (i.e. Stafford loan, Consolidation loan, PLUS loan, Perkins loan).

If you are having difficulties concerning your Federal Student Loan, first contact your loan lender/servicer. If you attended a school in New Mexico, chances are NM Student Loans is servicing your loan. If we are not able to assist in resolving the issue, you may also contact your loan guarantor. Both your lender and guarantor are listed on the loan promissory note. Once you have made a reasonable effort to resolve your problem through normal processes, you may wish to contact the student loan ombudsman.
